About The Wine:

The Barossa Valley in South Australia is famous for producing rich, fruit driven Shiraz and this is a perfect example of one. This 2016 Back Vintage Barossa Shiraz is very rich, full bodied and oozes fruit weight and fruit sweetness which only the Barossa can produce in a Shiraz. This is the perfect Barossa Shiraz to match with a nice steak and its great to have some age to it. The winery sells this Shiraz for $50.00 per bottle!

Comments from Wine Buyer Steve:

We have been very lucky to get our hands on this magnificent back vintage Barossa Valley Shiraz 2016. The region is renowned for producing top quality Shiraz and the winery that produces this wine only makes a small parcel every year which is primarily sold to restaurants in South Australia. Most of their fruit is sold to some of the Barossa’s most awarded wineries. We have been dealing with them for over 10 years and they are a very small family operation. This Shiraz just oozes class and distinction with beautiful full fruit weight and dark berry flavours and sells for $50.00 per bottle under the wineries brand. My score 98/100 – WACC Trophy.

About The Producer and region:

Wine has been a way of life in the Barossa since 1842.

The Barossa incorporates both Barossa Valley and Eden Valley, making it one of the only areas in Australia to have neighboring warm and cool climate growing conditions. There are some 750 grape growing families, many sixth generation, supplying quality grapes to more than 170 wine companies of all shapes and sizes.

The best wines of the Barossa sit comfortably alongside the great wines of the world.  Barossa Shiraz and Eden Valley Riesling have led the way as regional heroes, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Mataro, Grenache, Viognier, Semillon and Tawny all contributing to the Barossa’s standing as one of the world’s great wine regions. With such a diversity of growing conditions and soil types across both valleys, and vineyards that have been tended by hand for many generations, you are bound to find a wine to call your own.

The producer of this awesome Barossa Valley Limited Release Shiraz 2016 is a very small boutique producer that sells most of its premium fruit to Penfolds, St Hallets and Langmiel. The winery is now being operated by the third generation. They predominantly grow Shiraz from their Stonewell property, west of Tanunda in the Barossa Valley. They also have a small parcel of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes on the property which we also buy from them under our limited release range of wines.

The soil in the vineyard has had many uses over the years with the site once being used for pear and apricot orchards and grazing but is now proving to be ideal for grapevines with a deep red clay below a well structured red-brown earth topsoil. Water is only applied on a needs basis therefore making the vine work hard and producing more intense flavours.

What is Shiraz

The French and Americans call it Syrah, we call it Shiraz. A versatile variety and well suited to a range of climates, and can be found in most of the grape growing regions of Australia.
In hot climates (such as the Barossa Valley of Australia), Shiraz is more consistently full-bodied with softer tannin, jammier fruit and spice notes of liquorice, anise and earthy leather. In many regions, the acidity and tannin levels of Shiraz allows the wines produced from the grape to have favourable aging potential.
