What is Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre? (GSM)

GSM stands for Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre – three important grapes grown in the Côtes du Rhône region of France. Today, this blend is produced throughout the world and is loved for its complex red fruit flavors and age-worthy potential.

GSM wines are known for their bright fruit, extroverted aromas of ripe fruit, dried sage and herbs, and a grippy, pepper-and-herb finishes that echoes the wines’ aroma.

About The Producer

Produced at the Devlin’s Pound property near Overland Corner, SA. The founders of this winery planted a limestone based vineyard to a range of grape varieties, most notably Shiraz, Cabernet and Chardonnay which have received gold medals for premium wine quality.

About The Wine

The fruit was carefully harvested in the early morning to retain delicate varietal expression. Once fermentation was complete the wine was transferred to French and American oak hogsheads to mature for two years. The nice fruit intensity of this wine calls for a little breathing in the glass or decanter before being savoured with roasted red meats, game and rich sauce pasta dishes or strong cheeses.

This is a magnificent Clare Valley GSM 2019. I was blown away when the sample arrived and could not wait to try it at home with a meal. This medium bodied wine displays black cherry, raspberry and strawberry compote with medium tannins and soft acid providing length and balance to the wine. Seasoned oak maturation has allowed this wine to express its vibrant fruit flavours. A truly great Clare Valley GSM which is a bargain at $20.00 per bottle for our customers.
