What is Cabernet Sauvignon

This is one of the world’s most widely recognised red wine grape varieties. Cabernet Sauvignon became internationally recognised through its prominence in Bordeaux wines where it is often blended with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. From France, the grape spread across the world and can be found in Australia’s Margaret River, Clare Valley, Barossa Valley, Mt Barker and Coonawarra regions.

The classic profile of Cabernet Sauvignon tends to be full-bodied wines with high tannins and noticeable acidity that contributes to the wine’s ageing potential. In cooler climates, Cabernet Sauvignon tends to produce wines with blackcurrant notes that can be accompanied by green bell pepper notes, mint and cedar which will all become more pronounced as the wine ages.

About The Producer and region:

Renowned for its high number of grape producing wineries, Coonawarra is recognised as one of finest wine regions in Australia. The Coonawarra wine region is located just 60kms north of Mount Gambier. Coonawarra is rich in the bright coloured terra rossa soil which, along with the limestone rich soil and pure underground water, create the perfect conditions for vineyards in this area.

The Coonawarra Wine Region has a number of world class red wine producing wineries, particularly known for their classic Cabernet Sauvignon. In total, there are 36 Coonawarra wineries and vineyards found in various beautiful locations around the area.

Most of the wineries and vineyards offer cellar door sales and wine tastings. There are plenty of wine tour operators that will take visitors door to door where many of these renowned wines can be sampled and purchased. In fact, wine tours to Coonawarra ranks as one of the most popular tourist activities when visiting this region and therefore visitors will have no trouble booking a tour with one of the many operators servicing the area.

The producer of this magnificent Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is at the top of their game and rated a perfect 5 red stars by James Halliday in his 2019 Wine Companion. They put a lot of love into their wine making and are a small family owned boutique producer that hand picks the grapes and only produces small parcels each vintage.

About the Wine and Icon:

If you want to talk about a smooth iconic figure and a smooth iconic wine, then these two go hand in hand. We have chosen this rock icon to represent our new Coonawarra Icon Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 for many reasons.

He was the king of cool and electrified us with his mastery on the guitar. His deep, rich and smooth blues/rock sounds are legendary and are complimented in the wine with the deep, rich and smooth black berry flavours.

This iconic musician’s sound was complex, mysterious and trail blazing; likewise the flavour of this Coonawarra Icon Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 follows his path and is complex with dark chocolate and cassis together with a long finish.

Just like the music of this iconic music man… this iconic Coonawarra Icon Cabernet 2019 will leave you wanting more!!!  Enjoy this beautiful wine whilst listening to this awesome sounds of this iconic blues and rick god!

Comments from Wine Buyer Steve:

We have been very lucky to get our hands on this little beauty from the Coonawarra. The region is neck and neck with Margaret River when it comes to producing some of the best cabernet in the world. This cabernet just oozes class and distinction with beautiful up-front aromas and flavours of deep forest berries and chocolate followed by hits of mint and smooth tannin. Just all class really… My score 94/100  – WACC Gold Medal
