Comments from Wine Buyer Steve

I just love Nebbiolo, it’s one of my favourite red wines. This is a little beauty from Frankland River ticks all the boxes beautiful flavours of dark cherry, red currant, and lingering savoury spice. I matched it recently with an amazing Charcuterie board featuring prosciutto, salami and Pecorino, just superb.

A bargain from WA Cellars at $15.00 per bottle. Winery price $28.00.

Score – 92/100 WAC Gold Medal.

What is Nebbiolo?

Nebbiolo is a prestigious, high-tannin red wine grape originating from Piedmont, Italy, renowned for producing pale-coloured yet full-bodied, age-worthy, and complex wines. It is best known as the sole grape in Barolo and Barbaresco, exhibiting classic aromas of tar, rose petals, cherry, and anise, often with high acidity and firm, grippy tannins.

Known for extreme longevity, particularly Barolo and Barbaresco, which often require 10–20+ years of aging to soften tannins and develop complexity.

“Nebbiolo” is believed to be derived from the Italian word nebbia (fog), referring to the thick autumnal fog that shrouds the Piedmontese vineyards during its late harvest
