What is Pinot Noir?

Pinot Noir is a red wine grape variety of the species Vitis vinifera. The name may also refer to wines created predominantly from Pinot noir grapes. The name is derived from the French words for pine and black; the pine alluding to the grape variety having tightly clustered, pinecone-shaped bunches of fruit.
When young, wines made from Pinot noir tend to have red fruit aromas of cherries, raspberries and strawberries. As the wines age, Pinots have the potential to develop vegetal and “barnyard” aromas that can contribute to the complexity of the wine. –

About The Producer

The producer of this sensational little Pinot Noir 2017 is in Albany in the Great Southern Wine region of WA. The winery is a very small husband and wife operation that make intriguing wines that surprise your palate and leave you wanting more. They started the winery to offer something genuine to wine lovers – small batch, hand-picked chardonnay, pinot noir and merlot from the Great Southern wine region of Western Australia.

Their wines are different to anything you will find from the big brands as they reflect the care and attention, they are able to give by producing small batches, managing their small vineyard by hand, and harvesting by hand.  Only the best grapes are selected, and each vintage reflects the season in which it was grown and the soil and climate of our vineyard.

 About The Wine

Comments from Wine Buyer Steve

This is a cracking Pinot from one of WA’s premier cold climate regions. It’s also at a fantastic price. It is light to medium bodied with soft up front cherry flavours and a very smooth finish. Would be great chilled down in the fridge for drinking on a hot day. The winery sells this wine under its brand for $20.00 per bottle. It is an absolute bargain for from us at $11.00.

Score – 90/100 WACC Silver Medal.
