About The Wine

 This awesome oaked Great Southern Limited Release Chardonnay 2021 was barrel fermented and then spent 12 months in new and used French oak barrels.  This is a Chardonnay that is delicious for drinking now and over the next year or so. Its generous, peachy melon fruit flavours are beautifully balanced by the lightly drying, fresh acidity. It has a lovely silkiness on the palate with great mouth feel and also the tiniest touch of oak tannin which contributes to it’s to good length. A great match with all foods!

This is a stunning barrel fermented 21 Chardonnay. With a total maturation of about 12 months in new and used oak barrel.   The is fruit driven and made for enjoying now and over the short to medium term. All this Chardonnay was fermented with oak; some in older French oak (5-year-old barriques), the balance fermented with new oak staves to produce a wine with good palate weight and a touch of complexity, while retaining all its delicious fresh fruit flavours. My Score 96/100 WACC Trophy.

The winery that produces this Limited Release Chardonnay 2021 is at the top of its game and is one of the most awarded wineries in the Great Southern Region of WA. The winery is rated a perfect 5 red stars by James Halliday in his 2021 Wine companion. The winemaker is a legend and has done 35 vintages in the Great Southern region and is held in high regard in WA.

 

About the region:

The Great Southern lies along the Southern Ocean on Western Australia’s south coast. The pristine ocean and rugged coastline is only part of a spectacular natural environment that includes the ancient Stirling and Porongurup Ranges, magnificent forest, visiting whales and a multitude of wildflowers in season. Great Southern wines are produced in five subregions characterized by unique geomorphic and climatic conditions.

The subregions of Albany, Denmark, Frankland River, Mount Barker and Porongurup all produce distinctive fine wines that benefit from cool climate viticulture in a clean and green environment.

Albany wine is produced in a Mediterranean climate featuring wet, cool winters and warm, dry summers with a moderating sea breeze off the Southern Ocean.

The daily temperature range is minimal and moderate levels of humidity during summer reduce stress on the vines and assist ripening. Soils are lateritic gravelly sand loams or sandy loams derived from granite and gneissic bedrocks.

Bright and clear with a light gold colour.
Boquet:
Fresh and lifted on the nose with the attractive ‘stone fruit’ characters that are the hallmark of this variety; lovely aromas of light peach and white nectarine.
