About the Producer
The winery that produces this wine is one of Margaret River’s largest wineries, located only 25 minutes north of the township in the Wilyabrup sub-region.
Established in 2000, their wines reflect the quality of the fruit grown on the vineyard. The site favours low yields, intense flavours and bold structure. Winemaking is left to wild yeast cultures and minimal intervention. The winery is forward-thinking and fully committed to investing in the latest production and software management assets.
Their philosophy is to capture the quality of fruit produced in the vineyard to create an outstanding range of wines showing intensity and freshness, embracing the best of the Margaret River region.
This philosophy has remained true, with fantastic results in wine shows and press reviews throughout the years, particularly with the reds. Accolades include multiple trophies, gold medals, silver medals and countless bronze medals.
The full range consists of 12 wines with an indicative retail price range of $18 to $95.
Comments from Wine Buyer Steve
“This Margaret River Cabernet Franc caught my attention as soon as I opened the sample bottle and smelt the distinctive characters of mint and small red berries.
This wine just oozes class and distinction, and it is obvious enormous effort and love has gone into making it.
It is a bargain for $20.00 per bottle, as the winery sells it for $35 per bottle.”
My Score: 95/100 – WACC Trophy
What is Cabernet Franc?
Cabernet Franc is largely overshadowed by its more well-known cousin, Cabernet Sauvignon. However, Cabernet Franc is widespread throughout France, the cooler regions of Europe and most wine-producing countries.
The most common use for Cabernet Franc is as a blending partner, often in smaller proportions, in so-called Bordeaux blends. These wines are typically made from combinations of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, often with one or more of the less common Bordeaux varieties such as Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenère.
What is the Difference Between Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc?
As their names suggest, these two wine grape varieties are related. Cabernet Franc is the older variety, while Cabernet Sauvignon is believed to be its offspring.
It is highly likely that Cabernet Franc originated in Spain rather than Bordeaux, perhaps as long ago as the 11th century. Cabernet Franc ripens a little earlier and can therefore be successful in slightly cooler regions than Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Loire Valley and north-eastern Italy, both strongholds of the variety, are cooler than Bordeaux.
Cabernet Franc wines tend to be softer than Cabernet Sauvignon. They often display more fruit-driven flavours, particularly raspberry and other red berries, and are therefore more likely to receive less oak treatment.
