About The Producer:

The producer of this fantastic Porongurup Earth & Barrel Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 is located in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. They are one of WA’s largest family owned and operated wine producers. The current owners represent the third and fourth generation living and working on the in-Frankland River. It is this family’s love and commitment the Great Southern, as well as the unique combination of gravelly loam soils, warm sunny days and cool nights during the ripening season that produce grapes of intense varietal character and a sense of place. The winery is rated a perfect 5 Red Stars by James Halliday in his 2020 Wine Companion.

What is Cabernet Sauvignon?

This is one of the world’s most widely recognised red wine grape varieties. Cabernet Sauvignon became internationally recognised through its prominence in Bordeaux wines where it is often blended with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. From France, the grape spread across the world and can be found in Australia’s Margaret River, Clare Valley, Barossa Valley, Mt Barker and Coonawarra regions.

The classic profile of Cabernet Sauvignon tends to be full-bodied wines with high tannins and noticeable acidity that contributes to the wine’s ageing potential. In cooler climates, Cabernet Sauvignon tends to produce wines with blackcurrant notes that can be accompanied by green bell pepper notes, mint and cedar which will all become more pronounced as the wine ages.
