About The Wine
This South Australian Organic Chardonnay 2016 was produced from organically grown grapes that were carefully monitored during the ripening season and harvested in the cool of the morning to retain all the natural fruit characters. After destemming and crushing the juice was cold settled prior to temperature controlled fermentation which was completed in 21 days. Organic standards were rigorously followed in the vineyard and winery to maintain the natural fruit flavours of the Chardonnay grape. Storage on yeast lees for 2 months has complexed the palate and added a lovely creaminess which will mellow with age.
Comments from Wine Buyer Steve
This 2016 Organic Chardonnay is a soft full flavoured wine showing citrus peel and honeydew melon fruitiness. The texture is creamy and viscous yet has a lovely lemony finish to cleanse the aftertaste. A finely balanced wine that delivers all the attributes you would expect from the sunny Riverland of South Australia.A superb organic white wine and a phenomenal price at $18.00 per bottle.
My Score – 92/100 – WACC Silver Medal.
About the producer, Organic and Vegan Friendly.
The producer of this 2016 Organic Chardonnay is one of the largest producers of organic wine in Australia. Producing approximately 150,000 cases of organic wine annually from 100 acres of vineyards since the property was converted in 2009. To consistently achieve the highest quality fruit, the latest pruning, canopy management and other vineyard practices are undertaken to ensure optimum varietal expression from each harvest. As a core element of their philosophy, the winery endeavours to employ a “minimal intervention” approach to weed and pest control. For people who are allergic to sulphites or get a headache after one glass of wine, Organic wine is the way to go. With minimal intervention, these wines come to you an as natural state as possible, which means less side effects and more enjoyment.
How Is A Wine Vegan?
It means no animal parts are used in the filtration or fining process. Simple as that. Other added positives are the lower levels of sulphites in these wines and a smaller impact on the environment.
What is Chardonnay
Chardonnay grows well in all climates. Wines from vines grown in cooler climates show predominantly apple, quince, grapefruit and lime characters while those in warm and warm to hot climates are more peach and tropical fruit like. Fruit sourced from the Margaret River, Pemberton and Great Southern (Mt Barker) regions is used to craft some of Australia’s finest Chardonnay wines, richly flavoured and textured, well-structured wines. Margaret River wines tend to be more powerful than those from more Southern areas, which typically are delicately flavoured and textured. Wines from both areas can show great complexity and length of flavour
