What is Shiraz and Cabernet?
The French and Americans call it Syrah, we call it Shiraz. A versatile variety and well suited to a range of climates and can be found in most of the grape-growing regions of Australia.
In hot climates (such as the Barossa Valley of Australia), Shiraz is more consistently full-bodied with softer tannin, jammier fruit and spice notes of liquorice, anise and earthy leather. In many regions, the acidity and tannin levels of Shiraz allows the wines produced from the grape to have favourable ageing potential.
Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the world’s most widely recognised red wine grape varieties. Cabernet Sauvignon became internationally recognised through its prominence in Bordeaux wines where it is often blended with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. From France, the grape spread across the world and can be found in Australia’s Margaret River, Clare Valley, Barossa Valley, Mt Barker and Coonawarra regions.
The classic profile of Cabernet Sauvignon tends to be full-bodied wines with high tannins and noticeable acidity that contributes to the wine’s ageing potential. In cooler climates, Cabernet Sauvignon tends to produce wines with blackcurrant notes that can be accompanied by green bell pepper notes, mint and cedar which will all become more pronounced as the wine ages.
About The Producer
The producer of this Western Australian Back Vintage Shiraz Cabernet 2014 is a small family operation located in the heart of the Geographe Wine region of Western Australia. The winery is a total family affair with two generations involved in the operation of the vineyard, winery and cellar door. All the fruit used in production is 100% Estate grown and recent accolades have included a Gold Medal for their 2013 vintage Cabernet Merlot (which we also sold) from Wine Showcase Magazine. The South West region enjoys a classic climate of warm sunny days and cool, crisp evenings due to its close proximity to the Indian Ocean. The Mediterranean climate together with the gravelly loam soils and altitude from the Darling Ranges, provide a cool ripening season producing fruit of excellent quality.

Comments From Wine Buyer Steve
Our company prides itself on dealing with small family operated wineries throughout Australia. We find that these small operators put the most love and passion into their wines and the supplier of this Western Australian Back Vintage Shiraz Cabernet 2014 is no exception. The wine has great fruit body and length and I would say it is medium to full-bodied. It has a very earthy aroma and good fruit intensity with dark berry
