About The Wine

This Great Southern Natural Pinot Noir 2022 is made from organically farmed grapes from the Great Southern’ s Mount Barker sub region that were hand harvested and pressed to a stainless-steel tank where it underwent natural fermentation then transferred to oak for 6 months. This has created a beautiful medium bodied Pinot with great earthy texture you would expect from a natural wine. It has rich fruit flavours of raspberry with some smoky plum. These fruit flavours are balanced by the chewy earthy tannins which give the wine its good palate length.

Comments from Wine Buyer Steve

This is a magnificent natural Pinot Noir from the Great Southern. I love the earthy flavours and texture. You can almost taste the soil the grapes were grown in. Beautiful up-front flavours of ripe and juicy plums dominate the nose and palate. Just a ripper of a natural wine.

It’s going to fly out the door at $22.00 per bottle. The winery sells it for $39.00 so it’s a real bargain for our customers.

My Score – 97/100 – WACC Trophy

What is Pinot Noir?

Pinot Noir is a red wine grape variety of the species Vitis vinifera. The name may also refer to wines created predominantly from Pinot noir grapes. The name is derived from the French words for pine and black; the pine alluding to the grape variety having tightly clustered, pine cone-shaped bunches of fruit.

When young, wines made from Pinot noir tend to have red fruit aromas of cherries, raspberries and strawberries. As the wines age, Pinots have the potential to develop vegetal and “barnyard” aromas that can contribute to the complexity of the wine.
