About The Wine

There is a lovely delicacy to the aromatics in this pinot gris. They display a lifted bouquet of green nashi pear and citrus with an underlay of floral notes. The palate has some subtle weight while still maintaining freshness. An easy drinking style with a clean and flavoursome finish.

Comments from Wine Buyer Steve:

This is a stunning Great Southern Pinot Gris is zesty and crisp with a beautiful clean palate. There is plenty of citrus going on and I believe this is our best summer white wine in the range. Perfect chilled right down on a hot summer’s day. Nashi Pear describes it perfectly! An abustle bargain at $14 per bottle under our Icon brand. Winery price $28 under its brand.

My Score 94/100 WACC Gold Medal.

About The Producer

The producer of this 2023 Pinot Gris is a boutique winery located in Denmark on the south coast of Western Australia in the Great Southern wine region. They also grown some parcels of wine in the sub region of Mount Barker.

The winery is owned and operated by two best mates and winemakers with over 35 years of winemaking experience between them, they both hold a great insight into the West Australian wine industry. The boys are inseparable and hold similar beliefs in that great wines must come from great grapes. They adopt a mix of traditional and new world winemaking practices to ensure they respect the grape and its own unique characteristics.

About the region:

The Great Southern in Western Australia is the largest wine region in Australia by area and is the second largest producer of grapes in Western Australia. It is a landscape of forested cliffs and stunning mountain ranges, breathtaking coastlines, rolling green pastures and towns steeped in history. It is made up of five subregions: Albany, Denmark, Frankland River, Mount Barker and Porongurup.

The first vines were planted in the mid 1960’s when a trial vineyard was established near Mount Barker. The original vines were Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, the Great Southern is well and truly in the spotlight on a national and international stage. There are now about 70 wineries in the area with main varieties consisting of Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. While most wine regions have their star varieties, due to the sheer size of Great Southern and its varied terrain, it has the capacity to produce world-class wines from a range of classic varieties.

About the Wine and the Icon:

Some would say that this Iconic female was the most beautiful woman to ever grace the big screen! She certainly was an iconic style queen and remains so to this day. Many famous females have tried to mimic her style and looks over the years but no one has ever come close to the original. She oozed style and her presence captivated men everywhere.

This Iconic figure was discovered by a fashion photographer as she was walking along Sunset Boulevard on a warm summer’s day in 1946. He was immediately captivated by her natural beauty and a photo shoot was quickly organized and her career as a pin up model took flight. A nude photo shoot for a calendar in 1949 made her a household name around the globe and started her on a journey as a stage performer, singer and ultimately to realize her dream of becoming the most famous actresses in the world. .

Many people do not realize that this iconic figure was also an extremely intelligent individual and a humanitarian. The breadth of subjects found in more than 400 books of her library is a testament to her intelligence and wide range of interests which included literature, art, drama, biographies, poetry, history, theology, philosophy and physiology. She had a deep love for all people and animals particularly dogs.

Unfortunately, she became a man’s prize and this led to her ultimate spiral into depression and an untimely death. She will be forever missed and beautiful in our eyes.

Just like this Icon, this Mount Barker Pinot Gris 2023 is a wine to be opened spontaneously and enjoyed young. This fantastic Pinot Gris is sourced from premium cool climate vineyards in Mount Barker in Western Australia.
